SQL NOT Operator

The NOT Operator returns the results when the condition mentioned in the WHERE CLAUSE is not TRUE . The condition is matched and returns those values from the columns that are not true to the condition.

• Syntax of NOT Operator –

SELECT column1,column2,column3,...,columnN FROM table_name
WHERE NOT condition;


Here, as in the syntax shown, in the WHERE clause, we can add NOT Operator with the condition.

Demo Table – 

Product Table

Example – Consider the Product table of the Customer database where we don’t want to get those customer names that belong to the City of Chicago.

SELECT Category,Region,City,
Country,[Customer ID],[Customer Name]
WHERE NOT City = 'Chicago';


The output after executing the above statement is as shown –

Here is the result, we got only those customers who do not belong to CHICAGO. So clearly, the returned results show the condition is not TRUE.
